Police have said the 19-year-old rugby player whose body was found at the base of a cliff Bermuda on Monday fell to his death.

No wrongdoing is suspected in the death of Mark Dombroski, a freshman at St Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, authorities said during a news conference Thursday afternoon in the Bermudian capital of Hamilton, Philly.com reported.

‘My conclusions from my examination are that Mark died from a fall from a height,’ forensic pathologist Christopher Milroy, who conducted the autopsy, concluded.

‘I found no evidence of foul play in my postmortem examination.’

Dombroski’s body was found in a moat near the base of a 35-foot high cliff at a historic fort on the island, less than two days after he went missing from a nearby bar on the island.

Bermuda Police Superintendent Sean Field-Lament referred to the boy’s death as a ‘tragic accident,’ and said there was no evidence he was pushed.

He was visiting Bermuda with his college Rugby team and preparing to participate in the Ariel Re Bermuda International Sevens Tournament.

The teen was drinking with his friends at The Dog House, a popular bar in downtown Hamilton, on Saturday.

That was the last time he was said to be seen in person, and he was reported missing on Sunday morning. He and his family planned to return home that day.

A search party launched on Monday afternoon ended around 4.30pm when his body was found at Fort Prospect, near the Arboretum in Devonshire, Bermuda.

A toxicology report is not yet ready, but the FBI offered to expedite it.

During a press conference with the Bermuda Police on Monday, officials initially said there was no indication that Dombroski was intoxicated when he went missing.

Frank Arnold, the owner of the bar Dombroski was drinking at before his death, confirmed the rugby player was ‘not sober’ but also ‘not incoherent,’ the Royal Gazette reports.

‘That’s why we allowed him to come back and forth. He was trying to co-ordinate his friends to get going back to the barracks where they were staying,’ Arnold said.

The bar owner said there was no indication of any altercations that night between friends.

Police have yet to release an official cause of death for the student. They still say foul play is not ruled out.

Dombrowski’s mother Lisa said on Monday, before her son’s body was found, that he did not appear to be enjoying the ‘party atmosphere’ with his teammates, based on the footage she watched.

He reportedly injured his shoulder during his game earlier that day, and the footage allegedly showed him favoring that injury.

His parents were on the island helping with the search and his two brothers flew out on Monday to assist before their efforts were abruptly ended on Monday afternoon.

During a Tuesday afternoon press conference, Superintendent Sean Field-Lament, of the Bermuda Police, confirmed a forensic pathologist will perform an autopsy on Wednesday.

‘CCTV images show Mark was walking alone along Alexandra Road in Devonshire, which is immediately to the south of where his body was found,’ Field-Lament said.

‘At this juncture, further review of CCTV shows no other activity in the neighbourhood at that time.

‘Mark’s body was found at the base of a significant drop at Fort Prospect. His wallet and cell phone were found with him, intact.’

The police superintendent confirmed the the student’s body was not bound or tied, contrary to previous speculation.
