Describing how badgers mark their clan and their territory, he described in detail the ‘delicious’ second set of ‘sweeter’ anal glands possessed by the black-and-white animal.

‘It takes two to anal rub’ quipped Martin, leaving Michaela in stitches and Twitter in melt-down.

The comments on social media came thick and fast with many tittering about Martin’s approach to life in the badger sett.

@drpyromaniac approved, saying: ‘TV quote of the night must go to #Autumnwatch – “It Takes Two to Anal Rub”! #BadgersHaveAllTheFun’

@AJKnight11 agreed, saying: ‘Where else would you hear about badger anal gland rubbing at 8pm on a Monday night… oh how I’ve missed #Autumnwatch.’

This series sees the trio of presenters returning to Sherborne Park Estate, a Natural Trust property in the Cotswolds.
