Avengers fans saved from Endgame spoilers with help of Thanos’ Gauntlet Easter Egg

This week saw the release of the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame film, the culmination of 22 films in the Marvel cinematic universe spanning 11 years.

Fans of the franchise quite rightly flocked to the cinema to see the aftermath of supervillain Thanos’ devastating act which saw him wipe out half the population with just a click of his gauntlet-clad fingers.

With the internet awash with Avengers excitement, Google have joined in with the hype and have created a clever Easter Egg for people searching for information on the evil character – which is a delight for fans and those desperate to avoid spoilers.

Evil: Fans flocked to the cinema to see the aftermath of supervillain Thanos’ devastating act which saw him wipe out half the population with just a click of his gauntlet-clad fingers

A search on Thanos, portrayed by Josh Brolin, brings up the Google page as usual, with a description of the character located on the right hand side alongside an animated gauntlet.

But click on the gauntlet and the magic happens – with the search page disappearing before your eyes in a way that eerily echoes the fate of half of the universe in Avengers: Infinity War.

One by one individual entries atomise leaving a blank space, while the countdown displaying the amount of entries begins to plummet, leaving just half the original number.

A quick click on the gauntlet restores things to normal, but the clever hack is no doubt a Godsend for those not wanting to find the outcome but are unable to resist the lures of the internet.

The jaw-dropping sum was made in the 24 hours since the movie opened for preview screenings on Thursday afternoon.

The Disney and Marvel production toppled the previous record set by 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $119 million in the same market over the course of a single day, according to Deadline.

Avengers: Endgame opened for general release on Friday morning, but its Thursday previews helped it reach the $140 million mark.

The sneak peak screenings grossed $60 million alone with cinemas staying open all night to cater for huge demand.

The three-hour film, starring Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johannson, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans began showing previews from 6pm, but fans were already lining up long before doors opened.

Avengers: Endgame is also expected to be a phenomenon right around the world.

Analysts predict it could gross $850 to $900 million around the world during this coming weekend alone.

The film has already grossed $305 million internationally, as it’s already begun playing in several countries, including Israel, Australia, Venezuela and China.

Avengers: Endgame follows on from Infinity War’s epic, and traumatising, twist, which saw half of all life in the universe disintegrate after the evil demi-god Thanos collected all six infinity stones on the Infinity Gauntlet.

With only Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Hulk, Shuri (Letitia Wright), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), War Machine (Don Cheadle), Captain America and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) left on Earth – the team are now left in limbo.

While Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Nebula (Karen Gillan) are adrift in space, with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) alive in an unknown location.

The remaining Avengers must team up in one final stand against Thanos, and will also have to figure out how to bring back their loved ones.
