British Airways has apologised to a passenger after she was served a ‘disgusting soggy bruschetta’ breakfast – and then offered a ‘cold croissant’ as compensation.

Sandra Arthur was travelling from Chicago O’Hare airport to London Heathrow on Saturday and said she was shocked to receive the ‘soggy’ egg and cheese meal on the flight.

Ms Arthur, of Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, uploaded pictures of the food on Facebook to complain about the meal on the long haul flight, which cost her £1,200 for a return trip.

‘Bruschetta was difficult to get out of the box and the egg and cheese stuck to the box.

‘And as the flight attendant said he can not believe they are expected to prepare toasted bread in a steam oven.

‘So many complained. We could not eat this and when we complained we were offered a cold croissant.

‘The flight attendant was extremely embarrassed but professional.’

The image shows the egg and cheese appearing to have curdled with the bread also lacking the green herbs as advertised on the packet.

The airline has since apologised and a spokesman said: ‘We are sorry that our standards fell below our customer’s expectations on this occasion.’

It comes after British Airways also apologised to a customer earlier this month who claimed the meal on his flight looked like ‘dog food’.

Erik Booher flew from Houston, Texas to London Heathrow with the airline ahead of a cruise in the Mediterranean, but was unimpressed with his food.

He posted a picture of his meal on Twitter, which he said was the ‘chicken and mash’ he’d been served on his £700 flight.
