At that time he was taken to Narrogin Regional Hospital before he was transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital and later released.

Nathaniel suffered bleeding on the brain and blindness as a result of the alleged assault.

His father, Michael Ashley MacRae, 25, was charged with grievous bodily harm at the time of the incident.

He pleaded not guilty and is currently behind bars awaiting a trial allocation.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and while a cause of death has not been released they say it is linked to injuries suffered last year.

No further arrests or charges have been made at this stage.
