Bachelor host Osher Günsberg candidly reveals past struggle with Gynecomastia

The Bachelor host has flaunted the incredible results of his intense 10-week fitness regimen by posing shirtless on the cover of September’s Men’s Health magazine.

And while Osher Günsberg, 44, is proud of his newly-buff physique, he has candidly revealed his past struggle with the condition, Gynecomastia.

Appearing on KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie ‘O’ show on Wednesday, the TV personality confessed to struggling with excess breast tissue as a teenager: ‘It was not great.’

‘When I was 14, I was actually so big that it was the size of a squash ball in both sides… I had them taken out,’ Osher said of his treatment 30 years ago.

Shock jock Kyle Sandilands introduced the topic, frankly stating: ‘At one stage I know you had female breasts or nipples and you were concerned about them.’

Osher confirmed the complete story would appear in his upcoming book, explaining: ‘It’s not an uncommon condition, it’s a condition called Gynecomastia, where your hormones get a bit confused and you end up growing breast tissue.’

What is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the male breast tissue as a result of a hormonal imbalance in the body.

Male breast tissue swells due to reduced male hormones (testosterone) or increased female hormones (oestrogen).

Causes include puberty, ageing, medication and health conditions that affect hormones.

While Osher adopted a grueling fitness regimen for his transformation, he said his former condition prevents him from incorporating running into his workouts.

‘When I used to run – I can’t run anymore and I can’t feel my left nipple – I had to tape them up, because I would come home from running and because the T-shirt would rub against the nipple and I would look down and they’d be blood all over my T-shirt from my nipple,’ he admitted openly.

Osher’s memoir, titled Back, After The Break, will be released on August 20 and will include a host of candid tales from his past.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Osher Günsberg’s management for comment.

Osher lost nine kilograms and 11 per cent of his body fat as part of a 10-week ‘body and mind overhaul’ with Celebrity Transformation Coach, Chief Brabon.

He started his fitness journey at 83 kilograms, with 22 per cent body fat, and finished at 76.5 kilograms and 11 per cent body fat, with 2.5 kilograms of muscle gained.

‘Resistance training is something I do almost every single day. I ride my bike almost every single day. I eat with purpose and consideration every single day,’ he said.

Unveiling his chiseled new look on the cover of this month’s magazine, he became the first person on a ‘plant-based diet’ to front the fitness publication.
