Bachelor host Osher Günsberg reveals the real reason why contestants go on reality TV dating shows

They’re supposed to be going on reality dating shows to find true love.

But with Bachelor In Paradise’s Jarrod Woodgate spruiking pasta sauce and Love Island Australia’s Tayla Damir promoting fashion brands on social media, many would be forgiven the sole goal is ‘fame and fortune’ over romance.

Pedestrian TV asked Bachelor host Osher Günsberg for his opinion on the true motives of reality TV contestants – and his response may surprise you.

Bachelor host Osher Günsberg (pictured) revealed the real reason why contestants go on reality TV dating shows on Tuesday, saying: ‘People just want a connection. People just want authenticity, they just want to be held and loved and seen’

Speaking on the No Chill podcast, Osher, 44, said in most circumstances contestants are genuine in their search for ‘The One’.

‘People just want a connection,’ Osher explained. ‘People just want authenticity, they just want to be held and loved and seen.’

He added: ‘That’s why any of us have a Facebook account, that’s why any of us put photos up. We want to be seen. We want to be authentic, we want to be validated.’

So who has actually found lasting love on reality TV?

Perhaps most famously, Tim Robards, 35, and Anna Heinrich, 31, who met on the 2013 season of The Bachelor.

The couple married in June this year in Italy, making them the first couple from the reality TV franchise to tie the knot.

By contrast, after the inaugural season of Love Island Australia this year, Grant Crapp and Tayla Damir split after just 12 days of finding ‘love’ on TV.

Since then, Grant, 23, has been sent pushing protein powders, IPL laser hair removers and Schnapps on his Instagram account, while Tayla, 21, has been spuriking fashion brands on social media.

It remains to be seen what will happen to The Bachelor’s Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins, 30, and his chosen belle as the season of the popular reality show draws to an end.
