Bachelorette star Mike Johnson reveals in new book he was sexually assaulted by a babysitter when he was FIVE: ‘I couldn’t help but think something was wrong with me’
The Bachelorette favorite Mike Johnson wrote about a harrowing childhood experience in his new book Making The Love You Want.
‘When I was five, we lived in Germany, and my babysitter sexually assaulted me,’ the 32-year-old revealed at the beginning of the book.
‘My memories of fighting her off me and exploding out the front door to get away are still vivid,’ continued Mike, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

‘Afterward, I wondered about my sexuality and masculinity. I questioned myself: “Why would I fight her off if I’m attracted to women?”‘
In his new book which bowed this Friday he explained that his mother and grandmother brought up him and his little sister Amber.
He wrote that the assault ‘was emotionally and mentally catastrophic to me. I never told my mom or anyone else what happened.’
Mike explained: ‘For some reason, I felt that a masculine man would have handled the situation differently, no matter how young.’

He confessed: ‘Although I knew that what happened to me should never happen to any child, I couldn’t help but think something was wrong with me.’
In a new interview with People he shared that he discussed the subject with his mother only after he started work on the book.
‘I knew she would feel as if she was wrong, and I don’t want her to ever feel that way because there’s nothing she could have done. I wanted to protect her,’ he explained.
In the book he wrote that ‘as a child, I remember desperately wanting to be a masculine man who could protect our household.’

Mike shared: ‘Things weren’t always easy. There were difficult moments and faith-defining times, but my mother always did the best she could with what she had.’
He added: ‘It broke my heart to see the pain in her eyes when she wasn’t able to provide the quality of life that she wanted for us.’
‘Somehow, even at a very young age, I was aware of our circumstances, and I didn’t want my mom to stress over things that weren’t in her control.’
Mike became a star on last year’s season of The Bachelorette and won the hearts of fans, but Hannah Brown eventually chose country singer Jed Wyatt.
Hannah and Jed have since split and she landed in controversy this year after she said ‘n****’ on social media while rapping along to DaBaby.
