Baddie Winkle on how to take the perfect Instagram picture

With more than three million Instagram followers, social media star Baddie Winkle is far from your typical great-grandmother.

The 89-year-old keeps fans – including model Georgia May Jagger and close friend Miley Cyrus – entertained with vibrant daily posts of her outrageous outfits and globe-trotting antics.

Recent snaps include one of her posing outside the Moulin Rouge and another of her cheekily pinching a volleyball player’s bottom on the beach in Brazil.

But each image follows the same simple rules, Baddie explained.

Speaking in an interview with FEMAIL, Baddie, a native of Hazard, Kentucky, shared her tips for how to take the perfect Instagram snap – and revealed why Miley Cyrus is the celebrity whose wardrobe she would most like to raid….

Find your light

As many photographers know, lighting is crucial when it comes to taking the perfect picture. For Baddie, nothing beats natural lighting outdoors.

She said: ‘The lighting and angle is very important – I’ve learned that over the last few years. Move around to make sure it is right. I prefer natural light outside, when it’s sunny.’

Practise your poses

While many people might feel self-conscious in front of the camera, Baddie’s philosophy is to enjoy your moment in the spotlight.

Don’t forget the caption

A well-lit, stylish and perfectly framed picture is nothing without the caption, according to Baddie.

She said: ‘I like to accompany my photo with a funny caption – come up with something cute.’

‘Take several shots as it can take a while to get one you like, just embrace it and give yourself a full on photo shoot,’ she said.

‘You’ve also got to really enjoy it and feel confident in yourself. Be true to yourself and authentic. Then just snap it.’

Baddie has taken full advantage of this on her recent around-the-world trip, which is seeing her cross 10 stops off her ‘bad a** bucket list’ with the help of Hotels.com.

Accompanied by her great-granddaughter Kennedy, 21, Baddie has taken in stops including a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon and posing with the Dallas Texas Cowboy cheerleaders.

Dress to impress

Perhaps unsurprisingly for someone who is renowned for her style and who has fronted international fashion campaigns, clothing is of utmost importance to Baddie.

She explained: ‘Wear clothes that you feel happy in and reflect your personality, try not to worry about what others think.’

Describing her style, she said it was ‘rainbow-licious, darling,’ adding: ‘I’m always very modern and bright with lots of different colours. You’d rarely see me in head to toe black.’

And while many might turn to Baddie for style inspiration, she revealed that she does not take tips from anyone, although she does admire her ‘good friend’ Miley Cyrus’ wardrobe.

She added: ‘We met at the VMAs and I think she dresses amazingly… Her style is great and she’s definitely bad*** too but maybe a little more so than me – there is some things she wears that I don’t think I can quite pull off.’
