A baffling video appears to show a corgi being thrown out of an airplane in a seemingly reckless experiment—but it’s all down to a confusing optical illusion.
The corgi’s owner took to Instagram last week to share the clip of her pup, Karma, who appears to fly into the sky for a brief moment after being dropped.
But Karma then promptly lands on a hard surface revealed to be the snowy ground following only a short fall, before running around excitedly.

In the video, the snow looks confusingly similar to a snowy sky, in part because the mounds of snow easily pass for clouds.
Adding to the illusion is the fact that the sun’s reflection on the snow looked as if the light was really bouncing off the clouds’ surface.
‘I’m sorry,’ a woman tells Karma in a playful tone after the puppy lands safely in the snow. ‘I’m sorry!’
Karma, perhaps seeking revenge, then starts pulling on the woman’s sleeve, clearly in the mood for some play time.
The video has been making the rounds on social media, with viewers saying the clip scared them at first and left them thinking Karma was about to skydive.

‘At first glance I saw clouds and went like: “Oh nah don’t skydive lil’ corgi!!”‘ one person wrote on Instagram.
Several other users shared the feeling, with one person writing: ‘I legit thought he was being thrown out of an airplane.’
The video has now been viewed more than 14,000 times on Instagram and has also been shared on Twitter, baffling more viewers.
‘What a great optical illusion,’ someone wrote on the platform. ‘For a sec there I was a bit concerned.’
Another person said their heart ‘dropped’ while watching the footage, and one Twitter user added: ‘I almost sobbed! Whew.’
