A ballet dancer who is obsessed with corsets has revealed she’s shrunk her waist down to almost the same size as a soda can.
Ruth Lujan, a 24-year-old woman from Mexico, was diagnosed with hyperlaxity syndrome at just 19 years old. It’s a rare condition that affects muscles and ligaments.
Her doctor recommended wearing a corset to help alleviate her symptoms – such as fatigue, pain and stiffness in joints and muscles, and clicking joints – and her waist now measures just 11.8 inches in circumference, which is just three inches smaller than the average soda can.
Despite the challenges she’s faced with her condition, she has fully embraced it.

She has dedicated her life to tight-laced corseting, transforming her waist from 15 inches
‘I realized something was wrong with my movement while I was doing a ballet class. When I heard I had hyperlaxity, it really shocked me, and I felt so sad,’ Ruth recalled.
‘The condition meant I’d never wear ballet shoes again.’
But instead of letting her condition define her, Ruth turned to tight-laced corseting as a way to not only alleviate her symptoms but also to transform her waist.
Initially, Ruth tried to hide her corsets under her clothing, but she soon realized that she loved how the tight-fitting undergarment made her look and feel.
‘Who doesn’t want a really small waist – like a mermaid?’ she gushed.
Ruth also began posting her corseting journey on TikTok and Instagram, where she quickly gained a massive following with more than a million followers collectively.
People were amazed by her tiny waist and her dedication to the practice.
She initially had a 15-inch waist but now: ‘I’ve shrunk my waist to 11.8 inches.’
Ruth’s colorful social media accounts are full of photos of her ultra-flexible poses, her swimming like a mermaid underwater, and her favorite, fashionable fits, which feature her notorious corsets.
Dating back to the 16th century, corsets were initially designed to support a woman’s torso and provide a smooth silhouette.
But over time, the practice of a waist-training corset have been deployed by celebrities, like Kim Kardashian, to get a cinched torso.

Someone else wrote: ‘Wow! Contortion AND tight-lacing. That’s the first time I see that! Awesome.’
An impressed follower added: ‘Wish I was that flexible, never seen contortion done wearing a corset. Well done.’
Fellow corset-wearers often ask her where she gets hers and she gracefully responds that you can get a custom corset made from Banshee Corsets.
But Ruth’s corseting journey hasn’t always been easy. She has faced criticism and judgment from those who don’t understand the practice.
‘People think my look is extreme. They think I’m not real – that I’m a robot,’ Ruth said.
‘But I don’t let the negativity bring me down. In fact, I use it as motivation to continue doing what I love.’
For Ruth, corseting isn’t just about the physical transformation – it’s about the mental transformation as well.

‘The practice has given me more confidence and self-love. I feel empowered by my ability to shape my body the way I want to, and I’m proud of the way I look,’ she admitted.
Ruth also notes that the corset helps her with her posture and gives her more support, which has been beneficial for her hyperlaxity syndrome.
When she’s not corseting, Ruth loves to dance, particularly ballet, and embrace her quirky side.
She’s a lover of all things feline and often posts pictures of her cats on her Instagram page.
Ruth also has a collection of vintage hats and wigs.
‘Life is too short to not have fun and be yourself,’ she insisted.
Ruth’s dedication to tight-laced corseting has led her to some unique experiences, including being featured on the TV show Hooked On The Look.
During the episode, Ruth shared her story and showed off her tiny waist. She even demonstrated how she laces up her corset, which involves pulling the strings tight and tying them in a knot.
‘It’s like my own little secret superpower,’ she joked.
