Bank holiday weekend tube chaos ahead as RMT announces London Underground maintenance workers will strike for four days over pay

  • Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union to carry out 48-hour strikes
  • The first 48-hour strike starts on August 22, with another planned for August 24
  • Maintenance workers at Ruislip Depot striking due to ‘disputes about pay parity’

Another round of Tube strikes have been announced to take place over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) based at the Ruislip Depot will walk out for 48 hours will walk out over a long-running dispute over pay.

Maintenance workers will carry out a 48-hour strike from the morning of August 22, followed by another two-day walk out from the evening of August 24.

London Underground claimed that previous strikes of such workers had no impact on passenger services.

Closures are due to take place over the Bank Holiday weekend on the Bakerloo, District and Overground lines. 

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: ‘RMT is angry and frustrated that our efforts to reach a negotiated settlement to this dispute continue to be kicked back at every turn by London Underground and as a result we have no choice but to escalate the action with these two forty eight hour strikes coinciding with a major programme of works on the network across the Bank Holiday weekend.

‘Despite previous industrial action there has been no serious move by London Underground to resolve these disputes and the company need to wake up and take note of the anger on the shop floor.

‘The union continues to remain available for meaningful talks in both disputes and the ball is in London Underground’s court.’
