Banking drama Industry second season is off to a steamy start

The new series of banking drama Industry is set to start with a bang as the show returns to BBC One tonight.

Eight binge-worthy episodes are still readily available on iPlayer but the show, which was dubbed the ‘raunchiest on TV,’ will also air each one episode a week on Tuesdays at 10:40pm.

At the start of the new series Harper (Myha’la Herrold) and the other graduates are the fictional London bank Pierpont while they navigate life post Covid-19.

The pandemic has not tamed the steamy goings-on of the team. The first episode alone is filled with partying, cocaine, ecstasy and no less than three sex scenes.

After the events of season one, Harper is forced to come back into the office after working remotely from a hotel during the pandemic.

Meanwhile, since their falling out during the season one finale, Yasmin (Marisa Abela) has entered a cycle of drugs, partying and sex to cope with the stress of working at Pierpont.

She is invited to a party by her client Maxim Alonso, where she meets Celeste Pacquet, who works in the personal finance division of Pierpont.

Maxim reveals he blew up his career, which means that Yasmin has lost his biggest client, but she decides to stay for the festivities.

The two women share a spark and dance together with Maxim, while Yasmin takes cocaine and drinks champagne from the bottle with Celeste.

After the mysterious new woman leaves, Maxim flirts with Yasmin, and she tells him he is the only interesting person left at Pierpont.

The two have sex, after which Maxim tells her she should be more ‘comfortable’ at work.

He asks her what she makes of Celeste, but Yasmin brushes him off and tells him she doesn’t ‘need you to daddy me’.

While Yasmin attended Maxim’s party, Robert, who has been struggling with sobriety and self-confidence since the end of season one, meets a date for a hook up.

However, it is suggested he has performance anxiety, and his date asks him whether he is a recovering alcoholic, saying that ‘sober dates are basically corporal punishments.’

Later in the episode, the team attend work drinks, and Harper gets drunk, relying in Robert to take her home.

As they make it to her hotel room, Harper puts on advances on him, offering to give him oral sex and taking her top off, but Robert fends her off.

His rejection gets drunken Harper angry, and she tells him he is nothing but a toy for Yasmin to play with.

The episode ends with Harper choosing to attend a talk by Jesse Bloom, a notorious hedge fund manager who lives in her hotel, in place of a client meeting with her cruel manager Eric.

Industry’s sex-scenes garnered a lot of attention when the show first aired in 2020, as some viewers felt they were gratuitous.

Each sex scenes is carefully co-ordinated by an intimacy coach making sure that the cast feels comfortable.

The show’s executive producer Jami O’Brien said: ‘It’s like choreographing a stunt scene in a way, so hopefully everybody feels safe and there are no surprises.’

The show also balances male and female nudity so that its actresses don’t feel exploited.

O’Brien added that the sex scenes in the show’s second season are more character-based.

‘I’m very proud of the sex scenes in season two. Someone used the word “full-on” about season one, so in season two we tried to make them more character-led, more intimate, more romantic.

‘Hopefully we succeeded. I think there’s actually more sex in season two, but it’s far more interesting sex,’ he said.
