Unsettling new footage has emerged of the man accused of a crazed assault on two female police officers in Bankstown in Sydney’s southwest on Monday.

In the savage daylight attack, one woman officer was allegedly repeatedly kneed in the face while the other was brutally punched and kicked, police say.

The accused was seen fleeing the scene after the attack but was later caught on camera in the backyard of his home in nearby Yagoona.

He can be seen pacing up and down the garden, with washing hanging nearby, as he shouts apparent gibberish and mutters to himself.

The worrying scene played out just before police swooped on the home and arrested the man in connection with the alleged assault on the women cops.

He is said to be known to police for previous mental heath issues. It’s alleged he also later attacked a third police officer after he was taken into custody.

The initial alleged incident occurred just before midday near the Bankstown Hoyts Cinema on Jacob Street Terrace.

The two senior women constables were on patrol in the area when they saw a man standing in the road and warned him to move before he was hit by traffic.

But as the officers approached him, he allegedly attacked.

‘The man allegedly punched and kicked both officers, who used OC spray in an attempt to subdue him, before he ran from the area and boarded a train,’ NSW Police said.

A clip of the incident filmed from a parked car went viral after it was posted on Facebook.

The video shows a man in a red top allegedly violently kneeing one female police officer in the head while her colleague tries to use capsicum spray to subdue him.

The second officer then calls for help on her police radio.

The man is then seen running away in the distance as the policewoman who bore the brunt of the alleged attack hunches over and clutches her face.

After his arrest, the accused then allegedly assaulted a third officer, a 32-year-old male senior constable, while in custody.

The male officer and the two female officers from Bankstown Police Transport Command, aged 30 and 32, were all treated at Bankstown Hospital.

NSW Police added: ‘Charges are expected to be laid and inquiries into the incident are continuing.’
