The house, in Banyo, Queensland, features a new extension with an open-plan kitchen, living and dining space that’s made entirely from two old shipping containers.

Chelsea Gogan and Sam Porter were inspired to seamlessly meld the two containers on to the back of the property during their makeover because they wanted to use steel rather than wood for the extension of the old worker’s cottage.

Fully renovated with industrial flair, the pair completely transformed the old worker’s cottage into a spectacular two-storey home.

‘We thought it was a cool idea and Sam would rather work with steel than timber,’ Ms Gogan told Quest Community News.

‘It was a bit of a risk at the start (but) we gave it a crack and it’s come up well.’

For 18 months, the pair spent long hours after work and weekends revamping the space, with the shipping containers extending out of the rear of the property.

Ms Gogan said her favourite room was the open-plan kitchen, which is located inside the container.

‘The shipping container doors open out (and) Sam built the sliding doors … so it’s all very open,’ she said.

The property oozes with luxury elements, including smart technology, finger-print recognition and fob entry, ducted air conditioning, and interior lighting – all controlled via a smartphone.

The original home exists upstairs, boasting two bedrooms, including the master king-size with ensuite. The rest of the bedrooms come complete with built-in custom cabinetry.
