Barcelona ‘are offered the biggest kit sponsorship package in football history’

Barcelona ‘are offered the biggest kit sponsorship package in football history, with money-spinning deals set to total over £67m every year – with cryptocurrency companies VeganNation and Polkadot in talks’

  • A host of big companies are keen on sponsoring Barcelona’s kits next season
  • Rakuten and Beko are currently working with the club, but will soon step away
  • Reports say VeganNation and Polkadot are locked in talks with Joan Laporta
  • Spotify are also interested in a deal, and Barcelona are now weighing up options

Barcelona have been offered the largest sponsorship package in football, according to reports, with a host of companies desperate to partner with the club ahead of their deals with Rakuten and Beko expiring in six months’ time.

Despite the financial crisis at the Nou Camp, the LaLiga side are continuing to attract widespread commercial interest, and a potential money-spinning bid may even be enough to significantly ease their off-field headache.

Added together, the overall worth of the sponsorships may total more than €80million (£67m), with Barcelona still sourcing businesses to front their shirts, as well as have their logos on their sleeves and training kit.

That is according to Sport, who have identified VeganNation and Polkadot as two of the heavyweight names hoping to work with the club. Barcelona are studying both offers, with the two companies operating in the cryptocurrency market.

It has been claimed that VeganNation has been locked in talks since November. Their CEO, Isaac Thomas, is said to have met with Joan Laporta and Ferran Reverter, as well as Juli Guiu, who is responsible for marketing and revenue at the club.

A US public company listed on the OTC market, VeganNation say that their aim is to create a sustainable global community – and they have launched their own cryptocurrency, GreenCoin, as the first step into a new, green economy.

They have tabled an offer which would see them become Barcelona’s main sponsor for the next few years, Sport add. Their bid, which may see their logo feature on the shirt front, sleeves and training kit, would exceed the Rakuten and Beko deals.

However, VeganNation have also put forward a second option. A ‘joint venture’ with Tencent, one of the largest technology company in the world, would see Barcelona bank millions – with the business keen, through subsidiaries, to work with them.

The Catalonia-based outfit have also met with representatives of Polkadot and Spotify, it is believed. The latter’s offer is to become the club’s main shirt sponsor, ad would therefore free up room for other sponsors for the sleeves and training kit.

Sport indicate that the other two parts of the sponsorship could go to Green Coin, the cryptocurrency of VeganNation. The figure of both amounts would likely surpass the €100m (£83.8m) landmark, and inject millions into the club’s empty coffers.

Polkadot, a blockchain network established in 2016 and gaining traction year on year, are also in advanced negotiations with Barcelona.

Their own virtual currency, though, would likely prevent the club from working with both them and VeganNation at the same time.

The same outlet adds that the amount offered by Polkadot is also higher than what Rakuten splashed out to feature on the front of their jerseys.
