Barcelona even closer to signing Antoine Griezmann

Barcelona were growing confident on Sunday night that Antoine Griezmann will join them from Atletico Madrid next summer.

Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu met with the Frenchman’s family earlier this week to finalise a deal for next year.

It is understood that Bartomeu shared a meal with Griezmann’s sister, who helps manage the 26-year-old’s affairs, and his parents in Barcelona.

After Barcelona’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, club director Guillermo Amor said the meeting could be considered a sign of progress.

‘If Bartomeu met with Griezmann’s family as the newspapers say, then there may well have been an approach,’ he explained in an interview with Movistar.

‘Though, I don’t know anything for sure.’ Amor also said it was no surprise such information had become public knowledge given the level of interest there has been in Barcelona’s pursuit of the France international.

He added: ‘There is a good relationship, there can also be comfortable conversations. Rumours are inevitable in the football world.

‘In Griezmann’s case there are many people we talk to; it’s our obligation to have contact with players.’

Amor’s comments came before Griezmann disgraced himself on social media by sharing a picture of him blacked up for a Christmas party on Sunday night.
