Barcelona make Antoine Griezmann their No 1 target

  • Barcelona will pull out all the stops to land Antoine Griezmann next summer
  • The Catalan club have identified the France international as their No 1 target
  • Griezmann will have a release clause of ‘just’ €100million come July 1, 2018

Barcelona will go out to land Antoine Griezmann from La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid next summer after making the striker their No 1 target.

The Catalan club endured a torrid summer transfer window in 2017, as they lost one of their best players in the form of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain, while failing to land their top target Philippe Coutinho.

They are desperate to avoid a repeat next time around, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the club have already identified their main man.

Griezmann came close to leaving the Atletico last summer, when a move to Manchester United was halted by the club’s transfer ban.

The France international decided to stay put out of loyalty to the club, and signed a new deal to ward off any interest.

That contract could also hold the key to a Nou Camp move, however, with his release clause set to dip to €100million from July 1.

Griezmann and Atletico have endured a slow start to the season, having just moved into their new 67,000-seater Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

The 26-year-old has managed just two league goals, with Diego Simeone’s side stuttering to four wins and three draws from their opening fixtures.

Griezmann’s attentions are currently fixed on international duty, with France just one game away from qualifying for the World Cup in Russia.

Didier Deschamps’ side will book their place in the 2018 finals with victory over Belarus on Tuesday.
