Now Foot Mercato have reported that his former club Ajax are preparing an offer to bring Suarez back to the club.

The 33-year-old spent three and a half seasons at the club from August 2007 to January 2011 when he joined Liverpool.

During that time the prolific striker scored a staggering 111 goals in 159 matches with the team.

Signing Suarez would be a huge move for the club despite his recent injury troubles at the Camp Nou.

The Dutch giants have already seen some success in bringing back a veteran striker in recent seasons with Klass-Jan Huntelaar, but re-signing Suarez would be seen as a massive signing for the club which reached the semi-finals of last year’s Champions League.

It is uncertain whether he would wish to return to the club or leave Barcelona, but the Spanish giants are preparing for unprecedented changes following their humiliating Champions League defeat.

Defender Gerard Pique stated after Barcelona’s 8-2 defeat to the Bundesliga champions that drastic changes were needed, and now a mass exodus is planned after the rout highlighted deep-rooted issues at the Nou Camp.

Pique said:‘The clubs need changes and I’m not talking about the coach or any one player. The club needs profound change. We have hit rock bottom. We need to reflect and do what is best for the club.’

The defender included himself in the criticism. He said: ‘I will be the first to offer to go if we need new blood.’

And according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the only players that are guaranteed a Camp Nou stay are Messi, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong and recent La Masia graduates Ansu Fati and Riqui Puig.

The report adds that Luis Suarez could be among the potential high-profile exits from LaLiga’s runners-up, along with left-back Jordi Alba.

Though Suarez has one-year left on his deal there is a clause which automatically triggers a year’s extension if he plays 60 per cent of Barca’s games over the course of the next campaign.
