Barcelona boss Xavi is hoping teenage sensation Gavi agrees a new deal at the club after starring for the first team this season.

The 17-year-old midfielder has racked up 15 LaLiga appearances so far this season and notched his first goal in the Spanish top flight in their 3-2 victory over Elche last weekend.

Former midfielder Xavi has had to turn to academy stars amid the Catalan giants’ financial turmoil and is desperate for Gavi, whose deal is set to expire in the summer of 2023, to be tied down.

‘We must act now to renew him (Gavi)’, he told Marca.

‘If necessary, we will find a way to put money together.

‘He and Ansu, Pedri, Araujo are important for us. He is one of the future players of the club and we are working on his renewal.’

Nico Gonzalez, 19, and Abde Ezzalzouli, 20, are also products of Barcelona’s famous La Masia set-up who need to put pen to paper on new deals at the club.

Sportsmail reported that Barcelona are eyeing up a January loan move for exiled Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. 

The Spanish side are on the lookout for up to new forwards when the winter transfer window opens next month after Sergio Aguero’s retirement last week.

Barcelona are down in eighth place in the league table, a whopping 15 points adrift of leaders and rivals Real Madrid, and they face second-placed Sevilla tonight.
