Barnaby Joyce signs deal for a ‘warts and all’ tell-all autobiography days after welcoming baby boy

Federal politician Barnaby Joyce is set to remain in the headlines in the coming months after it was revealed he’s penning an autobiography.

The New England-based MP and former deputy prime minister has signed a deal with New Holland Publishers with the ‘highly anticipated, tell-all autobiography’ due for release in August.

The news comes three days after the former Nationals leader and his live-in partner, former staffer Vikki Campion gave birth to son Sebastian.

The newborn is Mr Joyce’s fifth child and first son.

He has four daughters with his wife Natalie, whom he separated from late last year.

The publisher promised the autobiography is ‘guaranteed not to disappoint’.

‘The book will be a ‘warts and all’ account of his personal story and commitment to people in the bush, as well as his public stoush with actor Johnny Depp, his citizenship crisis, his resignation as the leader of the National Party (and as Deputy Prime Minister), the inside story of the media frenzy concerning his personal life and the joy of welcoming baby Sebastian,’ a statement from the publisher said.

The Australian reports that Joyce has cold-called literary agents in recent weeks with some publishers sceptical about the book’s appeal.

Curtis Brown managing director Fiona Inglis told the publication her team felt the autobiography would have little chance of commercial success.

‘There’s nothing to say, the story is over and everyone’s bored with it … the media have already covered more than every angle,’ she told The Australian.

‘We felt for his wife, daughters and new partner — were concerned that the family has had enough.’

Another unnamed publisher said the market for political biographies was ‘not what it used to be.

‘It is getting harder to sell these types of books,’ he told The Australian.
