Bayern Munich ‘are the latest club to register an interest in Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger’ as German giants join Real Madrid and PSG in keeping an eye on defender’s contract situation at Stamford Bridge

  • Talks to extend Antonio Rudiger’s contract at Chelsea have slowed recently
  • The German defender’s current deal expires at the end of this season

  • Bayern have been in touch with Rudiger’s agent and brother Sahr Senesie

Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the list of European heavyweight clubs interested in signing Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger.

The German centre back, who played a key role in Thomas Tuchel’s side winning the Champions League last season, has a current deal at Stamford Bridge which expires next summer.

Talks about an extension have slowed in recent weeks and Goal now report that Bundesliga champions Bayern have registered an interest in the 28-year-old, who also has admirers at Real Madrid and PSG.

The report details that Bayern have been in touch with Rudiger’s agent and brother Sahr Senesie, though discussions are at a preliminary stage at this point.

Rudiger – who scored in the 3-0 win against Tottenham on Sunday – could be an appropriate replacement for defender Niklas Sule should he look to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of his own contract in 2022.

Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann recently admitted he thinks Rudiger has made a ‘super development’ at Chelsea since Tuchel took over in January.

‘I’m generally not a big fan of talking about players who are under contract elsewhere, and besides, we’re outside the transfer period,’ he said.

‘I’m talking about him now as a football fan because he is a German senior international. He has made a super development. Thomas [Tuchel] has handled him extremely well – he was still on the sidelines at Chelsea a year ago and is now certainly one of their most decisive players.

‘He has incredibly good aggression and is a very good defender. I haven’t spoken to Brazzo (Hasan Salihamidzic) about it and if I did, I wouldn’t tell you either!

‘I just read that in the media as well. I’ll have to see when the contract expires and then I’ll see if I still have money in my wallet!’

Chelsea are looking to extend the contracts of both Rudiger and defensive partner Andreas Christensen as a priority, before turning their attention to the long-term futures of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mason Mount.

Tuchel is still keen on Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and a deal for the Frenchman could be accelerated should Rudiger not sign a new contract in west London.
