Bayern winger Serge Gnabry picks FOUR former Arsenal players in his Dream XI – including Mesut Ozil

He’s had much more success with all-conquering Bayern Munich, but FOUR ex-Arsenal stars make Serge Gnabry’s ‘Dream XI’ – including Gunners reject Mesut Ozil alongside Lewandowski, Neuer and Co

  • Bellerin, Koscielny, Cazorla and Ozil were all named in Serge Gnabry’s team
  • Gnabry only played 18 games in all competitions for the Gunners before leaving
  • The 25-year-old has won eight trophies since joining Bayern Munich back in 2017
  • He also has a superb record at international level, with 15 goals scored in 19 caps

Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry has revealed his dream XI comprised of present and former team-mates, with four Arsenal players making his team.

Gnabry was highly rated at Arsenal after joining from local team Stuttgart in 2011 but after just 18 appearances across four seasons at the club – including an unsuccessful loan at Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion – he left for Werder Bremen in 2016.

Bayern snapped him up for less than £7million after one year and in the last three campaigns the 25-year-old has repaid their faith handsomely, scoring 23 in 46 games last season to help them to a Bundesliga and Champions League double.

Gnabry’s Dream Team

Formation: 4-2-3-1.

Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer.

Defenders: Hector Bellerin, Laurent Koscielny, Niklas Sule, Alphonso Davies.

Midfielders: Joshua Kimmich, Santi Cazorla; Kingsley Coman, Mesut Ozil, Leroy Sane.

Striker: Robert Lewandowski.

Despite playing for the reigning domestic and European champions, Gnabry – choosing for DFB TV – selected four players from his time at the Emirates, as well as seven from the German giants.

The 25-year-old opted for Germany legend Manuel Neuer between the sticks, with Arsenal stalwart Hector Bellerin and former Gunners skipper Laurent Koscielny joining Bayern’s Niklas Sule and Alphonso Davies in defence.

Current team-mate Joshua Kimmich joined former Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla in a double midfield pivot, flanked by Bayern widemen Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman with Gunners outcast Mesut Ozil playing behind striker Robert Lewandowski.

And Gnabry revealed his reasoning for choosing the four Arsenal stars to complement the Bayern players in his side.

He chose full-back Bellerin due to his ‘unbelievable speed’ and Koscielny as he is ‘a defensive ‘machine in the tackle’, with Cazorla making the team thanks to being ‘two-footed and unreal on his left and right’.

Ozil was released from his contract at the Emirates to join Turkish side Fenerbahce in January after not making Mikel Arteta’s 25-man Premier League squad, but Gnabry paid tribute to his ‘qualities on the ball’.

He added: ‘I appreciate his eye for his teammates and how dangerous he is in front of goal.

‘But it’s the through-balls he can play that just do it for me. I’d have him as a No.10.’

Bayern’s No 7 has been in superb goalscoring form for his country as well as his club, scoring the only goal of the game against Romania in a crucial Group J World Cup qualifying win in Bucharest on Sunday to make it 15 goals in 19 caps.

Gnabry will be hoping to add to his international tally against North Macedonia on Wednesday.
