The BBC has been accused of stirring up hate after comparing crowds at the royal wedding to empty spaces at Donald Trump’s inauguration.

BBC Three’s Twitter account posted side-by-side photos of both events with the caption ‘just saying’.

Social media users slammed the broadcaster for being unprofessional and snarky, and accused it of trying to create ‘hate and conflict’.

BBC Three’s Twitter account compared crowds at Trump’s 2017 inauguration to spectators at yesterday’s royal wedding and captioned it ‘just saying’

One user replied: ‘What are you saying? What are you implying? Is this something that would cause/stir up hate and conflict? Are you supposed to be doing this BBC?’

Another wrote: ‘This is about the wedding of Prince Harry and his bride-to-be Meghan Markle. Why don’t we leave politics out of it for once. This is why there’s always arguing.

‘Unfortunately people like yourself, whomever you may be, need to grow up and keep it professional.’

A third commented: ‘The British have discovered the secret to internet shade and are deploying it ruthlessly.’

Other users accused the broadcaster of pushing an agenda, while many Trump fans simply branded the post ‘fake news’.

The BBC declined to comment.

Photographs of the National Mall in Washington DC at President Trump’s 2017 inauguration were hotly debated when US politician was sworn in last year.

Trump said there was roughly ‘a million-and-a-half people’ in the crowd, while his press secretary claimed it was the ‘largest audience to ever witness an inauguration’.

But the photos seemed to tell a different story.
