BBC One’s Bodyguard is called the most violent series ever

Bodyguard has been called ‘the most violent TV show ever’ after a series of shocking – and seriously gory – events in its second episode.

The BBC drama follows policeman and former solider David Budd – played by Richard Madden – who has been assigned to protect the Home Secretary, the Rt. Hon Julia Montague, played by Keeley Hawes.

In last night’s installment Montague was made aware of a planned terror attack happening at Budden’s children’s school; which saw a lorry hurling towards a busy playground before it was blown up, killing the driver and surrounding policemen.

Later Montague screamed as a gunman started shooting at her from above, instantly killing one of her aides and leaving the car covered in blood.

When the gunman was unveiled he took his own life by shooting himself in the head.

The violent scenes were called ‘terrifying’ by viewers on the edge of their seat.

The counter-terrorism unit picked up activity on Whatsapp that several potential terrorists known to the police were in communication with each other in South London, and sent officers to follow them.

Suddenly the suspects drove down in an alleyway and emerged in a big white lorry, echoing real life terror attacks such as those in Nice and Berlin.

The lorry started charging towards the primary school so officers began to shoot to kill the suspects.

When they arrived on the scene it seemed the suspects were dead but one smirked knowingly, and seconds later a huge explosion went off, killing two policemen.

The children in the school playground had ran inside before the explosion smashed all of the windows, but none of the pupils or teachers were killed.

In a later scene Budd drove Montague from a cabinet meeting to her office when bullets started piercing the windows.

As he had a window open her  aide Terry was instantly killed, and his blood splattered all over the car covering the pair as Montague screamed in terror.

Budd told her to stay down as the gun wouldn’t get through the bulletproof car, but the gunman continued to shoot.

Budd fled the car and managed to find the gunman was stood on top of a nearby office block.

He dragged Terry’s body out of the car before driving a terrifying Montague to the nearby police and entering the building.

When he climbed on the roof he discovered that the gunman was Andy Apsted, a friend and solider he had served with in Afghanistan, who was resentful to politicians for all the lives lost while fighting.

Andy had planned to shoot Montague dead, explaining: ‘It’s over mate. For me, not for you, you’ve got to finish the job. I’m f***ed.

Later on in tonight’s episode Budd and Montague’s chemistry finally reached boiling point and they ended up in bed together.

She was shaken from the shooting and moved to a safe house, where she called him over to comfort her.

In the steamy scene she began brushing his fingers, before saying: ‘I’m not the Queen, you’re allowed to touch me.’

They began hugging before they kissed and finally ended up sleeping together.

Budd later learned that Montague had known the attack was going to happen, but hadn’t told him it was at his children’s school.

Despite the revelation they ended up in bed once again at the end of the episode.

The series follows Budd as he acts as Montague’s bodyguard, while carrying resentment towards politicians about the war in Afghanistan.

Bodyguard continues on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One
