Beauty buzz: Overnight sensations

The best way to boost your skincare regime? Sleep on it!

There was a time, not long ago, when surviving on as little sleep as possible was kind of a badge of honour. Not any more – science has now confirmed that it’s the crucial factor in looking, feeling and generally being our best.

At night time, the skin’s protective natural barrier function repairs itself, so it’s more receptive to the topical ingredients we apply via our skincare. Yet according to new research by Olay, only 30 per cent of women regularly use a night cream. To persuade us otherwise, it has created Regenerist Overnight Miracle Firming Mask (£29.99, boots.com). Combining the high concentration of active ingredients that you would usually find in a mask, it comes in a lighter, fresher texture than that of traditional night creams – plus, it sinks in overnight so requires no rinsing. Even after just one (late) night of testing it, I noticed my skin looked bouncier and perkier than it should have done.

Then let’s not forget your neck. The impact that light from screens has on our skin is no doubt going to become a big beauty issue. Ahead of the game, Make Moonlight Neck Repair (£44, feelunique.com) is an antioxidant-rich gel that counteracts technology-induced wrinkles, locks in moisture and tightens this fragile area.

To complete my bedtime routine, I’ve added the new RevitaLash Micellar Water Lash Wash (£30, revitalash.co.uk). Containing aloe and camomile, it gently removes eye make-up and fortifies lashes and brows.

THIS WEEK WE’RE… Throwing out the colour rulebook and pairing bright red nails with even brighter pink outfits. Try Jessica Phenom Vivid Colour in Leading Lady (£13.50, jessicacosmetics.co.uk) – then go for broke with that pink.

When contemplating your holiday packing, make some extra wiggle room for Sol de Janeiro Ipanema Sunset Glow Oil (£35, cultbeauty.co.uk). Inspired by the glossy, tanned bodies that line Brazilian beaches, it does all manner of brilliant things for pale skin and smells like a tropical island. I’ve hastily swiped this oil down my shins before racing out to a wedding and mixed it into a BB cream to rescue dull, tired skin. I’ve even applied it along my lips in place of balm, only to discover that it leaves them with a pretty nude sheen. It might look scarily shimmery from the outside, but it’s saved my beauty bacon several times.
