BEAUTY BUZZ: Your hero hydrator

Dry skin woes? Check out the latest It-ingredient

If you’re someone who likes to check the contents of your beauty products, you will know that squalane isn’t new in the world of skincare. What is new, however, is that rather than being tucked away amid a long list of ingredients, the latest innovations are making it the star of the show. A saturated and stable hydrocarbon found naturally in the skin, it can also be sourced from olive fruit trees. Not only does it protect you from free radical damage, it seals moisture to hydrate skin.

For those of you whose skin is prone to dryness, try Arizona-based skincare brand Garden of Wisdom’s 100% Pure Squalane Oil (£9, victoriahealth.com), which has just launched in the UK. Lightweight and non-greasy, it works well when you apply it before make-up.

Alternatively, choose The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% in Squalane (£4.20, theordinary.com). Many women find that applying retinol leads to dry skin, so squalane’s moisturising properties act as a counterbalance.

Finally, I recommend the Montamonta Facial Cleansing Mask with plant-based squalane (£18, montamonta.com). A new feature in my skincare routine, I apply a good slather on Sunday night – so, at the very least, my skin feels fresh, smoother and raring to go come Monday morning.

This week we’re… working a subtle mono flush, as seen on the Joseph S/S 18 catwalk. Apply Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Stick Blusher in Pink Flush or Coral Flush (£27, lancome.co.uk from Thursday) to cheekbones, brow bones and eyelids – then blend it softly over your temples, before adding a smidge to your lips.
