Beloved Adelaide pitbull turns on them and attacks family – while their six-year-old was forced to hide in the bathroom

A six-year-old boy was forced to hide in the bathroom while his mother and uncle were savagely mauled by the family’s beloved pitbull. 

Colicchie, a shar pei cross pitbull, attacked his owner’s 42-year-old brother and his 39-year-old sister at a Brompton home in Adelaide’s inner-north on Tuesday night. 

A relative who doesn’t want to be identified said her daughter was ‘dragged around’ by the dog, who has been with the family for eight years. 

She said her grandson had been screaming for his mother from inside the bathroom, with a two-month baby also in the home at the time. 

‘She was on the ground here and his teeth were into her arm,’ she told 9News.

‘She got dragged around by the dog, it was horrible. Her eyes were rolling in the back of her head and I was just screaming.’

Hot water was thrown at the dog to stop the attack, with the woman able to make her escape and lock the the animal in a bedroom. 

She was forced to hold the bedroom door closed as the dog ripped at the wood with his teeth and tried to force his way out. 

Footage from the home shows blood on a door handle, the walls and the floor. 

The bottom of a door had chunks of wood ripped out of it by the dog. 

Neighbours who heard the harrowing screams said up to four police cars arrived at the home at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night. 

The relative said police officers who attended the scene also appeared frightened. 

‘I want him put down. I don’t want dogs in my life ever again,’ she said.   

Paramedics transported the two victims to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where they underwent surgery and remained on Wednesday

Council officers seized the unregistered dog from the home. 

His owner has confirmed the dog will be put down on Thursday. 

 It comes after a Sydney vet called for some dangerous dog breeds to be banned in Australia to prevent fatal attacks on their owners or their families.
