Ben Cousins has quit his job with the West Coast Eagles football club

Ben Cousins has quit his job with the West Coast Eagles football club who offered the former a superstar a lifeline after he spent ten months in prison.

The champion footballer joined the club in a part-time role after he was released from a stint behind bars for stalking his ex-partner Maylea Tinecheff.

It has been revealed by the CEO Trevor Nisbett he only worked for at the club for three months in the community and development department.

According to Seven News his parole conditions required him to work for three months after his release.

The former West Coast Eagle served 10 months of a one-year sentence for stalking his ex-partner Maylea Tinecheff, who he shares two young children with.

The Brownlow Medallist, who was ordered to live at his parent’s house as part of his parole conditions, reportedly visited the AFL club in Western Australia at the required times between February until early April.

Since leaving prison, Cousins has been required to perform random urine tests and attend counselling.

West Coast Eagles Football Club would not confirm if Cousins was still employed by the club, the Herald Sun reported.

‘I’m not going to discuss one of our employees with you. I’ve got nothing to say on it,’ the spokesman said.

Cousins’ employment with his former football club was part of his parole conditions because he did not serve the full term of his sentence.

The former AFL star was fined $2400 for drug possession, where police found eight grams of methamphetamine during his arrest, and for driving without a license.

A month after his release on January 10, Cousins, who has previously struggled with a drug addiction, was seen smiling in photos during a cricket match in Perth.

However, Cousins’ former teammate Glen Jakovich previously told News Corp that working would be something new for the father-of-two who had a lengthy career playing professional AFL.

‘He’s never really had a job. I think there was a few little jobs there in the last couple of years but he’s struggled to hold them and hold them down and that’s where the troubles have continued for him in the last three or four years,’ Jakovich said earlier this year.

The 39-year-old was jailed in March 2017, after he flooded his former partner’s phone with more than 2000 texts and calls in January-February.

Cousins also turned up at Ms Tinecheff’s church, home and the school their two children attended.

In November, the former Eagles player tried to contact his former partner 542 times, with 103 of those attempts taking place on the same day.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted West Coast Eagles for further comment.
