Ben & Jerry’s has gone political again with a new flavor of ice cream called Justice ReMix’d as part of a prison reform campaign.

The limited edition blend is a mixture of cinnamon and chocolate ice cream, cinnamon bun dough and spicy fudge brownies.

The company partnered with the Advancement Project for the campaign to ‘transform the system to deliver justice for all, instead of just some’.

It was announced on Tuesday by company founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield who said the current prison and bail system in the US should be ‘illegal’.

‘Our country has a cash bail system that should be illegal,’ Cohen said.

Earlier this year, one of the ice cream company’s founders threw his weight behind Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders with a limited edition ‘Bernie’s Back!’ flavor.

And in November last year, it was hit with criticism from customers over its anti-Trump Pecan Resist flavor.

To launch the Justice ReMix’d flavor, actor Jessie Williams, who works with the Advancement Project, filmed a video where he snacked on the ice cream and read its label.

‘Justice ReMix’d, the sweet taste of justice. This is pretty dope,’ he said.

On its website, Ben & Jerry’s released a statement explaining the inspiration for the new flavor.

‘Innocent until proven guilty. Fairness. Justice. Those are the values that guide our legal system, right? Well, maybe for some, but definitely not for all.

‘America locks people up at a higher rate than any other country on earth — and bias is baked right in. If you’re a person of color or struggling to make ends meet, you’re much more likely to be sent to prison — for a longer period of time — than a white person convicted of the same crime.

‘It’s time for change. Join us as we learn more about front-end criminal justice reform and how transforming the system can benefit everyone,’ it said.

It has linked to a petition for customers to ‘join the movement’.
