Canadian TV host Ben Mulroney, the father of two of Meghan’s page boys and one her bridesmaids, has revealed intimate behind-the-scenes details about the Royal Wedding experience.
Seven-year-old John and Brian had the honor of carrying Meghan’s train of her dress down the aisle, while Ivy, 2, was a bridesmaid at the wedding.
And on Tuesday’s Your Morning on CTV, the father-of-three who is married to Meghan’s best friend, Toronto-based stylist Jessica Mulroney, revealed how his family prepared for their very special roles.

‘There had been so much talk about getting it right with the rehearsals and these kids are so young,’ he explained.
‘There was a lot of worry that this wouldn’t get done right, but they’re having so much fun with it. And that, to me, was the thing that gave me the most pride was that we didn’t put so much pressure on them that this wasn’t joyful for them. It was pretty darn joyful.’
Ben also shared that they encouraged their kids to wave at onlookers and take in the experience, and he also revealed what was behind his son Brian’s toothy-grin that has since gone viral.
‘I asked him and he said he’d never heard a trumpet before,’ Ben explained of his son’s beaming face and wide smile that exposed several missing teeth. ‘And I think when he walked in, I think he saw all the people there and the flowers — none of that was there during the rehearsal.’
The twins were joined by Prince George and Harry’s godson Jasper Dyer, six who were all dressed in miniature replicas of Prince Harry’s Blues and Royal military uniform.
The tiny team of bridesmaids consisted of Harry’s three-year-old goddaughter Florence van Cutsem, Princess Charlotte, Meghan’s goddaughters Remi, six and seven-year-old Rylan Litt, Ivy Mulroney, four, and Harry’s two-year-old goddaughter Zalie Warren.
Ben also explained that their daughter Ivy, who walked in with mom Jessica, made ‘very good friends’ with the other bridesmaids.
‘The kids had a chance to get to know each other a little bit at these rehearsals and some get-togethers as well,’ he said. ‘They sort of came together in a little bit of a “club” before this happened.’
The twins also came away from the experience with some new pals and Ben recounted how Jasper Dyer, son of Harry’s old friend and mentor Mark Dyer and his American wife Amanda, told his father that he really like ‘those Canadian boys very much.’
Scene stealer: Many have compared Jessica’s entrance into St George’s chapel to Pippa Middleton’s Royal Wedding moment back in 2011
Tactics: Ben also explained that he and Jessica had different tactics on getting the children to behave during the ceremony at St George’s chapel
Viral: Brian went viral after he exposed a toothless-grin as he carried Meghan’s veil into St George’s chapel and Ben revealed that hearing a trumpet play for the first time was behind it
In the club: Ben also revealed that his kids made a ‘club’ with the other children
Close: Ben, son of the former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and his wife Jessica who is a PR consultant and bridal expert are among Meghan’s closest friends
Ben also explained that he and Jessica had different tactics on getting the children to behave during the ceremony at St George’s chapel.
‘We did months and months of bribery and mild threatening, but in the days leading up, we changed our tune to a more Oprah-themed empowerment: “You can do this!”‘ he said. ‘And they did.’
And if reports are to be believed, it wasn’t just the Mulroney kids who were practising their entrances for the big occasion.
According to The New York Post, Jessica started practicing her walk a month before Meghan’s big day so she would be able to sashay into the church with ease, and quite possibly drew her inspiration from Pippa Middleton’s now viral entry into Westminster Abbey during Kate and William’s 2011 nuptials.
Richard Johnson of Page Six said that a friend of Meghan’s had told reporter Sharon Churcher of an incident that occurred at a Toronto Gala.
‘A prominent photographer asked Mulroney to pose,’ the friend reported.
‘She said archly, “I’m going to give you some Pippa”, and turned her back to offer a rear shot. I was kind of shocked, but that’s Jessica for you.’
Ben, son of the former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney and his wife Jessica are among Meghan’s closest friends.
Style guru, PR consultant and bridal expert, 37-year-old Jessica is Meghan’s closest confidante, and is credited by many as the brains behind Meghan’s transformation from television actress to polished princess in waiting.
It is largely thanks to their flourishing friendship that American-born Meghan, who relocated to Canada while filming the television series Suits, found herself moving through the kind of high-powered social circles that ultimately led her to Harry’s side.
