Benjamin Netanyahu spotted leaving Mayfair nightclub

The Israeli prime minister was pictured leaving an exclusive Mayfair nightclub LouLou closely followed by a heavy security presence earlier this week.

Benjamin Netanyahu was flanked by bodyguards as he made his way out the West London nightclub, which has been host to Princes William and Harry, Mick Jagger, Kate Moss and George Clooney.

Mr Netanyahu was escorted out the club on November 5 and left in a blacked-out car and a 4×4 which drove with his vehicle.

Shortly before he left LouLou’s, a convoy of cars with American personnel picked up an unknown person, also accompanied with heavy security.

The exact nature of the 68-year-old’s visit to the nightclub is unknown, but he had been in London to celebrate the centenary of the Balfour declaration – which paved the way for a Jewish state.

Last week Mr Netanyahu had held talks with Theresa May in Number 10 and had a formal dinner with the prime minister.

And it was revealed earlier today that the Secretary of State for International Development Priti Patel held secret meetings with the Israeli government, including Mr Netanyahu, where she said UK aid cash could be handed to the Israeli Army.

Downing Street confirmed Ms Patel suggested funding could be provided to the Israeli Army to help it fund a field hospital in the disputed Golan Heights territory on the Israel-Syria border during her family holiday.

Downing Street insisted today that no policy change was made after the Aid Secretary’s controversial dozen meetings during her trip in the summer.

Ms Patel has made a grovelling apology to Theresa May over the secret summit but still faces calls for her to go. No 10 admitted tonight Ms Patel did not disclose the policy suggestion of funding an Israeli Army field hospital to Mrs May yesterday.

The Prime Minister has refused to fire her Aid Secretary despite claims she brazenly broke the ministerial code in four ways and misled journalists about her activities.

Theresa May was unaware of that Ms Patel had held these meetings with Mr Netanyahu and the Israeli government before she had dinner with him last week.

During her dinner with Mr Netanyahu last week, Mrs May said: ‘There is today a new and pernicious form of anti-Semitism which uses criticism of the actions of the Israeli government as a despicable justification for questioning the very right of Israel to exist.

‘This is abhorrent and we will not stand for it.’

She will add: ‘Criticising the actions of Israel is never – and can never be – an excuse for questioning Israel’s right to exist, any more than criticising the actions of Britain could be an excuse for questioning our right to exist.

‘And criticising the government of Israel is never – and can never be – an excuse for hatred against the Jewish people – any more than criticising the British government would be an excuse for hatred against the British people.

‘Put simply, there can be no excuses for any kind of hatred towards the Jewish people.

‘There never have been – and there never will be.’

Mrs May said he UK is proud of its ‘pioneering role in the creation of the state of Israel’.

‘We are proud to stand here today together with Prime Minister Netanyahu and declare our support for Israel. And we are proud of the relationship we have built with Israel.’

She will call for a two-state peace deal ‘with a secure and prosperous Israel alongside a viable and sovereign Palestinian State’.
