Bento box hack with a Kmart ice cube tray clip container

As any mother will know, getting your children to eat the food in their lunchboxes at school is a mammoth task – let alone if they’re fussy and don’t like different foods touching.

Which is why one mum’s lunchbox hack has sent social media into meltdown.

Claiming the trick will save you time, money and your sanity, all you need to do is invest in an AUD $2 giant ice cube tray from Kmart and a $3.50 clip container from the same store.

You then slip the ice cube tray inside the clip container – and voila! Your very own homemade bento box with separate sections for fruit, cheese and crackers.

One mother has posted a lunchbox hack online consisting of a giant ice cube tray tucked into a clip container – both items come from Kmart; she posted the trick online (pictured)

‘Just a wee bit of genius from @reve.ever..,’ budget design site, Rough Diamond, posted on Facebook.

‘A very handy #kmarthack using the large ice cube trays ($2… which make amazing ice cubes with a wedge of lime frozen in them) and the Kmart container for your very own bento box!!!’.

The trick has since been lauded for being inexpensive, easy to wash and good for controlling portions.

However, not all people are fans - one mum posted that Kmart already sell segmented lunchboxes for $5 (pictured) - 50 cents cheaper than the two put together

According to some regular Kmart shoppers, the discount store already sells segmented lunchboxes for between $4 and $5 – 50 cents less than the ice cube tray and clip container combo effort.

‘Small fishing tackle/bait box at Bunnings and Mitre 10 also are very good cheap alternatives. Sides go all the way up (not leak free for yoghurt though),’ one tongue-in-cheek commenter posted.

Another merely said that she had located a $5 pink segmented lunch container in Kmart that day.
