Bernard Fritz dies while on holiday in Bali: Tributes pour in for Australian grandfather

A family of three has been left devastated after their beloved ‘Poppa’ died in a tragic biking accident while on holiday in Bali.

Bernard Daniel Fritz, 73, was found dead in Bangli Village, east Bali, at about 1.40pm on Thursday.

Tabanan Police said Bernard reportedly died after he lost control of his bike and collapsed beside the road.

The 73-year-old was discovered unconscious by locals who put him in a vehicle that took him to the Baturiti 1 Public Health Facility.

Sadly, Bernard was confirmed dead by medical staff soon after arriving.

‘Medical team at the health facility explained that there is no sign of violence on the victim’s body,’ a police spokesperson said in a statement.

‘There are only several bruises in his forehead and nose.’

Police said Bernard’s son, Aaron Daniel Fritz, told authorities his father didn’t have any history of heart disease.

Aaron’s wife, Yofita Katherine Fritz, shared a series of photos of her father-in-law on her Instagram following his sudden death.

‘RIP Poppa… we miss you so much,’ she wrote.

Included in the sweet photos were several of Bernard holding his young grand-daughter Charis and reading her a bedtime story.

Catherine revealed one of the photos of her and her small daughter had been taken by Bernard just ‘minutes’ before his death.

‘What Poppa took few mins before – I can’t,’ she wrote.

Bernard’s body has been taken to Dharma Tadnya funeral home in Denpasar, about 25km south from the Tabanan Regency.
