What’s in a name? If you’re Beyoncé, it’s a whole lot. So much so that she will go to great lengths to protects hers – even if that means putting an end to a product that has taken her fans by storm.
The chart-topper recently shut down production of a Brooklyn-based beer called Biëryoncé, a German Pilsner that was not online inspired by the singer, but also used a near-identical font to that on her eponymous 2013 album.
However, according to a cease and desist letter sent by the singer’s lawyers, the female-owned Lineup Brewery – the business behind the music-focused beverage – failed to seek Beyoncé’s permission when creating its popular product.

Despite the beer proving to be incredibly popular, the singer was clearly unimpressed with the tribute – despite Lineup Brewery’s owner insisting that it was always intended as a ‘homage’ to Queen Bey.
Katrina Martinez explained to Pitchfork that the idea for the canned beer, which featured a black label and pink writing, just like the font used on Beyoncé’s fifth studio album, came to her after she missed out on the singer’s concert, despite landing tickets.
Having failed to see her perform in person, Katrina wanted to share her dedication to the star in another way.
‘As a Hispanic, female run business, I am very inspired by her so I thought I’d pay homage,’ she said.
‘We’re disappointed she didn’t take it as a compliment, but oh well. It was fun while it lasted!’
Tragically for Beyoncé’s beer-drinking fans, the brewery only got to make a one-time batch before production was shut down, and what’s left of the beer is being sold in select stores in New York while supplies last.
The beer cans, which originally came in a four-pack, did manage to make quite the impact on social media during that short time, however, with dozens of people sharing images of themselves with the beverages, no doubt toasting to the superstar herself.
One Twitter user even posted a photo of her Queen Bey inspired beer, writing, ‘I just want everyone to know that I may never, ever be more happy than I am right now.’

Lineup Brewing is known for it’s wacky names that are inspired by different people and things such as, ‘Did you hit it!?,’ ‘I bet you think this beer is about you,’ and, ‘In defense of ghosting,’ to name a few.
After the news hit the brewery that they had to stop production of Beyoncé’s beer immediately, Katrina changed the name of the beer to Kätariná, after herself.
The female-run brewery posted a photo on Instagram of the new label that will appear on the beer cans, which features a similar font to the Bïeryoncé cans, but in white instead of pink, once agian against a black background.
Lineup posted a photo of the new beer cans with the hilarious caption, ‘Ask and Bey shall receive.
‘Moving forward, our German Pilsner will be called Kätariná paying homage to our badass female brewer and owner. We’re still huge @beyonce fans.’
Katarina took the news lightly and instead of getting angry, she made a joke of the situation.
She told AMNewYork, ‘I would be totally open to Beyoncé coming over and cracking open a few Bïeryoncés and talking through it.’
While she took the cease and decist letter in stride, Katarina is disappointed by the news, continuing, ‘It was a funny pun. Everybody loved it.’
