Big Brother Australia’s low ratings blamed on lack of ‘young, hot singles’

Big Brother Australia has been whipped in the ratings by Channel Nine’s Lego Masters. 

The Channel Seven show hasn’t captured audiences as hoped – and insiders are blaming the cast, an alleged source told The Daily Telegraph on Saturday.

A lack of ‘eye candy’ and ‘young, hot singles’ in favour of an ‘all ages’ line-up is the culprit, an insider claims. 

‘When something underperforms like this, obviously fingers get pointed and there is a lot of chatter that the casting just wasn’t right,’ the alleged source told the paper. 

They went on to say that Big Brother would have done better if it had featured the sort of cast that has been a hit for Nine’s Married At First Sight.  

‘I think there is some thought that that show could have benefited more from a cast that reflects something like Married At First Sight,’ they added.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Big Brother Australia is averaging just 500,000 an episode. 

This year’s castmates include fashionista Sarah Jane Adams, 66, Martha Kalifatidis’ mother Mary Kalifatidis, 56, and Real Estate Agent Daniel Hayes, 48.   

Lego Masters dominated the OzTAM ratings in late April.

The brick building competition topped the demographics and pulled in 739,000 metro viewers.

The figure put it ahead of Channel Seven’s Big Brother premiere, which launched to just 662,000 viewers.   

The Monday prior, the Lego Masters premiere was the top entertainment program of the night.
