Outspoken Big Brother star Daniel Hayes slams Australia’s Covid rules and ‘fear-mongering’

Outspoken Big Brother housemate Daniel Hayes has lashed out at Australia’s heavy-handed response to the Covid pandemic.

Speaking on Instagram Stories this week, the businessman, 48, strongly criticised the government and some aspects of the media for their handling of the pandemic.

He said he’d recently returned from overseas and was shocked to see Aussies still worried about the virus while the rest of the world moves on.

He said the public should be educated on how age and pre-existing health conditions affect Covid outcomes, noting how the majority of healthy people who catch the virus will make a full recovery.

Having recently spent 75 days visiting ‘about seven different countries’, Hayes said other nations had come to accept the risk of Covid and the fact there will inevitably be a small risk of death if exposed, but had learned to live with the virus.

He recalled visiting a hotel in England which had a sign saying ‘we don’t use the C-word here’, which showed how territories outside Australia had moved on.

Hayes, who seemed very agitated, said he was alarmed to return to Australia and see reports of Covid being ‘worse than ever’.

He also noted he’d recently caught the flu, which was ‘ten times worse’ than Covid.

Hayes, who is vaccinated against Covid-19, previously criticised Australia’s handling of Novak Djokovic’s deportation in January.

The Serbian tennis champion had his visa cancelled twice, spent time in hotel detention and was eventually kicked out of the country after arriving for the Australian Open without having met the Covid vaccine requirements.

‘Australia is the laughing stock of the world – run out of RAT tests – no food – did the government not have the foresight to see this coming?’ he said.

‘[Allowing him to stay would be] a total kick in the guts to all the people who have lost loved ones, to all the people that were forced to be double jabbed, to all the people that have struggled mentally and emotionally.

‘He should go home and Australia should applaud that. This is not really a crack Djokovic, [but] a crack at the absolute incompetence of our government.’
