Big Brother: Tim Dormer’s shock career move after admitting his fifteen minutes of fame is over

Big Brother’s Tim Dormer reveals wholesome career move after admitting his fifteen minutes of fame is over: ‘I was selling stuff on Instagram and living in the past’

Big Brother Australia star Tim Dormer has turned his back on fame to pursue a wholesome new career path.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle on Saturday, the former socialite, 37, revealed he’s been working as a disability support worker since 2019, as he wants to do something more fulfilling with his life than being an influencer.

‘The 15 minutes of fame train was pulling into the station. I’d had my fun, but it was time to get off,’ he told the publication.

‘I think I squeezed more than 15 minutes out of it over the years. I wasn’t finding much reward in that lifestyle anymore. I was selling stuff on Instagram and living in the past and I wanted to start a new path.’

He admitted he found being a support carer far more rewarding that being a ‘D-Grade’ celebrity and he quickly realised he had found his life’s calling.

‘You’d be surprised how much of a difference you can make in someone’s life just by showing up. A lot of what I do is just being a friend and a cheerleader for my clients. It’s an amazing relationship I’ve formed with them.’

Tim rose to fame in 2013 when he won Big Brother Australia’s tenth season, and he went on to star in several other reality shows, including The Celebrity Apprentice and last year’s reboot of Big Brother.

Last year he told 7News he went through ‘some really tough times’ after splitting from his ex-fiancé Ash Toweel in 2020.

Dormer said he lost his self-confidence, retreated from social media and was a ‘broken’ man following their break-up.

When he was at his lowest, an unexpected phone call from Big Brother producers helped him find his ‘groove again’.

The call was to discuss Tim returning for 2022’s ‘Back to the Future’ season, which saw veteran housemates go up against new contestants.

'The 15 minutes of fame train was pulling into the station. I'd had my fun, but it was time to get off,' Tim said

Tim was joined by fellow champions Reggie Bird (2001) and Trevor Butler (2004), as well as Tully Smyth and Drew Anthony from season 10.

Dormer was evicted from the house in Week Eight, losing out to inaugural champion Reggie Bird.

‘When the call came to do Big Brother, I was scared, I wasn’t that same guy,’ he said.

‘But as soon as I got back into the house, I found the groove again and I fell in love with the game and with sharing myself openly and it built confidence,’ he added.
