Big Little Lies’ Alexander Skarsgård reveals ‘horrible’ experience on set

‘It was psychologically draining’: Big Little Lies’ Alexander Skarsgård reveals ‘horrible’ experience shooting domestic abuse scenes with Nicole Kidman while her husband Keith Urban watched on

Big Little Lies’ Alexander Skarsgård, 42, has spoken candidly about what it was like to film violent domestic abuse scenes with his on-screen wife Nicole Kidman, 51.

Speaking to KIIS FM’s Kyle And Jackie O Show on Monday, Alexander admitted that he felt physically and mentally drained after the controversial scenes- many of which were filmed while Nicole’s husband Keith Urban watched on from the wings.

‘Those scenes were obviously quite intense to shoot,’ he said, before praising Nicole for her incredible resilience and acting prowess.

‘She’s not only an incredible actress but she’s also like the most lovely and generous and sweet woman. So of course, shooting those scenes were horrible. Absolutely horrible,’ he said.

Several episodes show the wealthy couple passionately locked in a violent exchange, which is quickly followed by sexual intercourse.

Meanwhile, Alexander also revealed to the radio duo that Nicole chose to do many of her own stunts despite the violent nature of the scenes.

‘Nicole wanted to do it herself’, he explained.

‘For the buildup of the intensity of those scenes it helps when you don’t jump it up. When you can shoot the whole scene as one fluid motion, it helps make it more authentic to build up that rage, ‘ the actor went on.

‘But of course it was very difficult,’ Alexander reiterated, adding: ‘We were both incredibly drained and Nicole bruised after those days.’

It comes after Nicole publicly credited her husband Keith for helping to keep her sane while filming the intense domestic abuse scenes.

In May, the beloved actress told News.com.au that she ‘wouldn’t [have been] able to do it’ without the support of her ‘incredibly patient’ spouse.

‘He’s unbelievably supportive and watches all the episodes and cheers on from the sidelines which, I have to say, if I didn’t have that I wouldn’t be able to do it, I seriously wouldn’t,’ Nicole gushed.
