HBO drama Big Little Lies was the stand-out winner in the TV categories at Thursday’s 23rd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
The hit series picked up four awards during the night including Best Actress In A Limited Series, which went to Nicole Kidman.
The series created by David E. Kelley and based on the book by Liane Moriarty also scooped Best Limited Series, while Kidman’s costars Alexander Skarsgard and Laura Dern took home Best Supporting Actor gongs.

‘Every actor in this room knows you are only as good as the other actors you work with’ Kidman said as she took to the stage at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.
The star made sure to include ‘all’ her children – Isabella, 25, and Conor, 22, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, and Sunday, nine, and six-year-old Faith with spouse Keith Urban – in her speech, after previously coming under fire for not acknowledging her two older kids in other awards acceptances.
‘I wanna thank all of my children who show me so much love,’ she gushed.
The 50-year-old Aussie actress played domestic abuse victim Celeste Wright in the drama alongside Reese Witherspoon.
Dominating the movie categories, Guillermo del Toro’s fantasy flick The Shape of Water won Best Picture as well as Best Director.
The movie, which stars Sally Hawkins as a mute woman who falls in love with a scaled creature, also won best score and best production design.

On to the Oscars: Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water won Best Picture and del Toro also picked up Best Director for the fantasy flick

The movie, which stars Sally Hawkins as a mute woman who falls in love with a scaled creature, also won Best Score and Best Production design
On stage Guillermo honored his actresses as he said: ‘For everyone that has been unequal in working with women, let me show you who stands here with us and made this movie possible.
‘Let me tell you one thing: you don’t know what you’re missing.’
Meanwhile, Best Actor went to Gary Oldman for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Joe Wright’s Darkest Hour.
The World War II biography was also awarded best hair and makeup.
Best Actress went to Frances McDormand for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Chris Hemsworth announced the category and informed the star-studded crowd that McDormand, 60, wasn’t able to appear to pick up her prize.

The Martin McDonagh-directed movie follows the story of a mother on the hunt for her daughter’s killer and McDormand won the pest performance award at Sunday’s Golden Globes.
Oldman and McDormand could be headed to Oscars glory as the Critics’ Choice Awards are seen as a big predictor of who might win big at the Academy Awards in March.
It was also a big night for The Handmaid’s Tale as it picked up three awards.
The show’s star Elisabeth Moss was awarded Best Actress for her turn in the Hulu dystopian series.
The show also scooped Best Drama series and Moss’ co-star Ann Dowd picked up Best Supporting Actress In A Drama Series.

Sam Rockwell won Best Supporting Actor for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The 49-year-old star was not in attendance to receive his award.

Fresh off the back of his Golden Globes win, Alexander Skarsgård, once again took home the Best Supporting Actor In A Limited series for HBO’s Big Little Lies.
The star-studded audience giggled as the 6ft 4in hearthrob got to the stage and found he was too tall for the microphone stand, so ended up standing with his legs apart lowering himself just enough to speak.
Skarsgård’s Big Little Lies co-star Laura Dern also took home her second big win of the season, winning Best Supporting Actress In A Limited Series following her victory in the same category on Sunday.
The Critics’ Choice Awards is an annual show presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
Written ballots are submitted during a week-long nominating period, and the resulting nominees are announced in December.
