Big Mack Pie: The Queensland favourite that takes a spin on the traditional meat pie

It shares a similar name as a popular fast food burger – but instead of the meat being engulfed in between two patties, it’s contained within sesame seed pastry in the form of a pie.

Located 120 km north-west of Brisbane, Australia, Blackbutt Bakery has released their ‘Big Mack’ pie for the second time after popular demand.

Roberta Anson, the owner of the bakery told Courier Mail they brought the unusual creation back after one customer saw the picture of it on Facebook and called up to order 20 of them.

The 2017 Great Aussie Pie Competition also saw a chicken, brie and cranberry pie take out the prestigious title of Australia’s Best Pie.

Jeff Alexander, from Victoria, the baker behind the unique creation, left school when he was 15 to do his pastry cook apprenticeship and at 23, he started his bakery, Tatura Hot Bread, with his wife Glenda.

‘We use [the competitions] as a benchmark to try and find out if our products are the good standards. So if we do well in these competitions we know that we are providing our customers with good products,’ Glenda told WIN news.
