A big rig tumbled down a hillside after its driver ignored warning signs and tried to climb a one-lane section of winding highway.

The white truck with a long trailer slowly navigated the sharp bend in northern California as a group of construction workers watched on.

In the footage, posted to Facebook by Forrest Kuecker, the cab can be seen swiftly following, knocking down trees as it falls.  

Highway management company Caltrans, whose contractors were working on the road at the time of the accident, also shared the video on Facebook.

In the caption, they wrote: ‘Our contractor’s crew was out working on SR 175 yesterday afternoon when they saw this long truck trying to make it through a one-lane section of highway where a retaining wall is being built.

‘Multiple signs are posted to warn truck drivers of this length restriction, but drivers continue to try to go through. 

‘Sometimes they simply get stuck, but others end up going over the embankment. 

‘This driver was not injured, but it must have been the ride of his life!’
