  • On a Times podcast on Monday, the reporters behind the story posted audio of their interview with O’Reilly
  • The recording shows how O’Reilly started berating the reporters after they wrapped up the interview, telling them: ‘This is c**p and you know it!’
  • O’Reilly was fired from Fox News in April, after the Times reported how he had paid millions over the years to settle sexual harassment claims
  • The story published last week detailed a claim that hadn’t been reported before
  • The most recently revealed claims centered on Fox News legal analyst Lis Wiehl, who said he engaged in ‘a nonconsensual sexual relationship’ with her
  • O’Reilly paid $32million to settle claims by Wiehl in January and a month later Fox News resigned him to a four-year contract

When New York Times reporters confronted Bill O’Reilly with evidence that he paid $32million to settle a sexual harassment claim in February, the former Fox News host went beserk.

On Monday, the Times released audio from part of Michael S. Schmidt and Emily Steel’s interview with O’Reilly, before their expose was published last Friday.

The reporters had finished their interview with O’Reilly, and had already turned off their main recording device when he went on a angry tirade.

It appears that O’Reilly may have not known that both reporters were still recording the conversation on their smartphones.

‘Why don’t you be human beings for once. This is horrible, it’s horrible what I went through, horrible what my family went through.

‘This is c**p and you know it. It’s politically and financially motivated. And we can prove it with shocking information. But I’m not going to sit there in a court room for a year and a half and let my kids get beaten up every single day of their lives by a tabloid press that would sit there and you know it,’ O’Reilly yelled.

‘This is c**p and you know it!’ O’Reilly yelled at reporters Emily Steel (left) and Michael S. Schmidt (right) during their interview. The reporters were recording the conversation on their phones

‘It’s at that point that he gets as animated as I’ve ever seen anyone in any type interview that I’ve ever been in,’ Schmidt said of the interview, on the Times’ The Daily podcast.

‘It’s almost like you can feel the vibrations in your own chest,’ Steel said.

The Times report published last week detailed how O’Reilly paid former Fox News legal analyst Lis Wiehl $32million to settle a sexual harassment claim.

Wiehl claimed that O’Reilly engaged in ‘a nonconsensual sexual relationship’ with her, repeatedly harassed her and messaged her sexually explicit material – including gay pornography.

A month later, Fox News resigned O’Reilly to another four-year contract, despite knowing about the allegations.

But he was fired in April when the Times published a report about the $13million O’Reilly paid over the years to settle similar claims. Wiehl’s claims were not reported in that original story.
