Billionaire Michael Bloomberg plans to spend $34 million in just ONE week on anti-Trump ads

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg plans to spend $34 million in just ONE week on anti-Trump commercials in 46 states

  • Bloomberg plans what may be the largest-ever political ad blitz starting Monday
  • One-minute anti-Trump ad will run in all but two of the contiguous 48 states
  • Ad blitz is scheduled to begin on Monday and run through December 3
  • Buy is larger than Obama’s record $30 million one-week spent in 2012

Michael Bloomberg, who is mulling a run for the Democratic presidential nomination, will spend $34 million to run just one week of ads bashing President Donald Trump, according to a new report.

The ad campaign is slated to run nearly nationwide beginning on Monday, and comes one day after Bloomberg filed paperwork creating a presidential campaign committee, according to Politico.

Bloomberg is worth $52 billion according to Forbes, and reportedly plans to spend up to $500 million of his fortune seeking the presidency.

The gargantuan ad buy is possibly the largest one-week spend in U.S. political history, eclipsing the $30 million then-President Barack Obama dropped in a week while seeking re-election in 2012.

Bloomberg’s ad consists of a one-minute spot that targets an opposing candidate, according to numerous FCC filings.

A latecomer to the Democratic primary, the former New York City mayor plans to largely ignore the first four primary states and focus all of his efforts on Super Tuesday on March 3, when 15 states hold primaries.

Bloomberg’s deep pockets will allow him to run a simultaneous campaign in all 15 states that would bankrupt other candidates.

The initial ad buy will see ads running in all but two of the contiguous 48 states, according to tracking firm Advertising Analytics.

Some prominent Democrats are less than happy with Bloomberg’s free-spending entry to the race, however.

‘I’m disgusted by the idea that Michael Bloomberg or any other billionaire thinks they can circumvent the political process and spend tens of millions of dollars to buy our elections,’ Senator Bernie Sanders, a top contender for the nomination, said in a statement on Friday.

‘If you can’t build grassroots support for your candidacy, you have no business running for president,’ he continued.

‘In an usual departure from the rest of the primary field, Bloomberg’s running on putting money *into* politics,’ tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

In response to the criticism, Bloomberg committed this past week to spending $100 million in digital ads aimed just at Trump and another $15 to $20 million to register half a million voters.
