Billionaires descend on Monaco for yacht show

Billionaires and their multimillion-pound toys have descended on Port Hercules in a lavish display of wealth for the annual Monaco Yacht show.

In total 120 superyachts have been put on show by manufacturers hoping to lure a buyer or simply drawn envious eyes, with 40 of them going on show for the first time.

Yacht owners also sailed into port on board their own vessels, including businessman Shahid Khan – owner of Fulham football club and the Jacksonville Jaguars – and casino tycoon Steven Wynn.

In total, yachts at the show are believed to be worth almost £3billion, though many of their true values are kept a closely guarded secret by their owners.

Also on display are ten luxury cars, 40 tenders and ‘toy’ vessels, two helicopters. Almost 600 exhibitors are involved with the festival with more than 36,000 participants.
