Bishop Michael Curry who stole headlines at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May has been diagnosed with cancer.

Curry shot to fame after giving an impassioned speech at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding ceremony.

But the Church revealed on Thursday the bishop had been diagnosed with prostate cancer months earlier and decided to give the address in spite of his illness.

In a letter, which was released by the Church, Bishop Curry wrote: ‘After a variety of tests, consultations and conversations with my wife and daughters, I decided on a surgical treatment course.

‘I am happy to say that the prognosis looks very good and quite positive.

‘I have spoken with several others who have gone through this, and who have offered both encouragement and helpful advice.

‘I will be in the hospital for at least a day, then at home to recuperate.’
