It’s understood that Dawlon had been riding his scooter with a friend at the time of the incident.
Witnesses stayed with the boy until paramedics arrived at the scene.
Dawlon suffered multiple serious injuries including a fractured skull, brain injuries, a broken collarbone, a broken arm, and a burst bladder, according to his family.
In an emotional Facebook post, his older sister Letitia Michelle Smith said Dawlon died ‘surrounded by family’ at Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.
‘His progress scan in the first week showed he only had a small amount of damage to his outer brain where as Thursday’s showed a significant change,’ she wrote.
‘On Friday, mum had to make the difficult decision to turn off his life support. Dawlon being Dawlon had fought for two days.’
Letiti said her family had been left completely devastated by the loss.
‘Watching your little brother die right in front of your eyes is nothing I ever imagined would happen,’ she told 7News.
‘We all thought he was on the road to recovery with all the positive signs he was showing.
‘We’re all hurting, but we’re at ease knowing Dawlon’s no longer in pain and suffering anymore.’

Dawlon’s sister created a GoFundMe to raise emergency funds for Dawlon while he fighting for life in hospital.
The campaign raised more than $18,000 over the last two weeks.
A second GoFundMe page has been created to help the family with funeral costs and lawyer fees.
The driver of ute allegedly returned a blood alcohol level of 0.069 before he was slapped with a drink driving charge.
He will front Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 30.
More charges are expected to be laid in that time.
