At least 11 people have been arrested after a Black Lives Matter protest turned violent in Manhattan on Friday night. 

Around 100 people assembled in Times Square in the early evening for a ‘F**k 12’ anti-police march, according to local news outlets. 

Authorities reported that the initial demonstration was peaceful, with video shared to Twitter showing several activists burning a ‘Thin Blue Line’ flag as cops watched on passively.  

However, the situation soon escalated after a protester was reportedly arrested on nearby Sixth Avenue, appearing to anger other members of the crowd.

The New York Post reports that a violent altercation ensued leaving two officers injured. 

According to the publication, a photojournalist who works for The New York Daily News was also assaulted after being mistaken for a police officer.   

‘He’s a cop,’ one protester reportedly yelled, as several protesters surrounded the snapper.  

Sources say the photojournalist was shoved and beaten, before being left with a bloodied nose. 

The New York Daily News said their employee was ‘jumped by 10 or 15 protesters’ during the incident. 

Video being shared on social media shows the NYPD declaring an unlawful assembly, ordering protesters to disperse. 

Many are seen scuffling and screaming at officers. 

Photos later show several being placed in NYPD vans in handcuffs after they were arrested.
