Block stars Hayden and Sara reveal the truth behind their controversial $9000 brass bath

Despite their hopes for redemption, Sara and Hayden Vale’s $75,000 bathroom – the most expensive in The Block history – was given the lowest score on Sunday’s episode.

And the couple have now set the record straight about their decision to make a $9,000 gold brass bathtub the centrepiece of the room, which the judges eventually described as  ‘ugly’ and ‘dated’.

‘It was definitely an exaggeration when I said we based our whole apartment on the bath,’ Sara told Nine Homes on Monday.

‘It was definitely an exaggeration’: The Block’s Hayden and Sara (pictured) have backtracked on claims they ‘based their whole apartment on the $9,000 gold brass bathtub’… after their $75,000 renovation was slammed by the judges

Explaining the statement bathtub had to be shipped from overseas, she added: ‘It was definitely a piece we had to have in our apartment. We thought that this bath would complement the apartment quite nicely.’

Hayden agreed with his wife, saying: ‘Also the brass and the black went with well with our apartment and our overall colour scheme. It’s nice to have something a little bit different, that looks a little more luxurious.’

Mother-of-one Sara sensationally stormed off The Block after her pricey bathroom was savaged by the judges, Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and John McGrath.

'It was definitely a piece we had to have': The couple (pictured in an interview with Nine Homes on Monday) claimed the bathtub was not the centrepiece of their entire apartment, but stood by their decision to splash out on their bathroom

The final scores were: Bianca and Carla – 27; Norm and Jess – 23; Hayden and Sara – 22, Courtney and Hans – 24; and winners Kerrie and Spence – 27.5.

Sara, 31, was heartbroken after the scores were revealed, ripping her microphone off as she walked off set.

She wept: ‘I’m going, I’m not coming back… take your f**king mics. If we’re gonna constantly come last and be embarrassed, why would I want to be here? That bathroom did not deserve to be last.’
