Blogger with cervical cancer shares photos of hair loss

A blogger who is battling cervical cancer has bravely documented her hair loss on social media in the hope to inspire other sufferers.

Milly Smith, 23, from Hull, who has been living with cancer for three years and was diagnosed last month, shared a photos of her thinning hair on her Instagram page ‘Self Love Club’. 

In her post she told her 180,000 followers that her hair ‘does not define her’ or make her any less beautiful.

The blogger who also suffers with depression and chronic pain described how she originally suffered hair loss due to medication, revealing that she is now expecting to lose all of it. 

In her post Milly writes: ‘Here’s to girls with no hair, short hair, thin hair, Afro hair, straight hair, thick hair, dry hair, hair all over their body, facial hair etc etc etc YOU ROCK.

‘I realised that a year ago this would have devastated me beyond belief but right now I’m at peace with it and it’s due to self love and positivity.

‘My hair isn’t what makes me beautiful; it’s my kind and wonderful soul that shines out like sunbeams.’ 

While another wrote: ‘I just want you to know how much you mean to me and how much I look up to you, your posts always give me the confidence I need to leave the house on a daily basis.’ 

Milly’s post, which she shared two days ago, has received an outpouring of support amassing over 41,000 likes.

She was met by messages of support from followers. One wrote: ‘This can be one of the hardest parts of cancer treatment, it’s often the first physical sign to the world that you’re sick.

‘Like you said hair or no hair – you’re beautiful, but if it makes you sad, that’s ok. You’re allowed. Much love’

Another added: ‘You are absolutely amazing. Thank you for being you and letting us know it’s okay to be ourselves. You are inspiration to so many woman’.

In a further devastating blow, Milly revealed to her followers earlier this month that on the day of her operation to remove the tumour doctors discovered that she was pregnant but that the baby had not survived. 

In a post on her account Milly explained that it was pregnancy symptoms that had lead to the discovery of her cancer: ‘They also found a little bundle of human who sadly passed away. 

‘It was this sweet, innocent baby that spiked symptoms, the reason they found the cancer and the reason I’m alive now.’  

Milly, who suffers from borderline personality disorder (BPD) uses her account to encourage body positivity and self-love and frequently discusses her struggles with mental health.

She admits to battling with eating disorders in the past, documenting her recovery in before and after photos.
